Today I presented to HRC my report focusing on innovative and transformative models of social inclusion of victims and survivors of trafficking in persons.
So far victim support has been almost exclusively focused on short-term measures. I argue that social inclusion in the long run is the ultimate goal of any anti-trafficking action. Social inclusion is a State obligation that stems from the due diligence standard and the right to effective remedy. In this report, I identify key challenges related to long-term social inclusion, including lack of compensation, and highlight some promising practices that are innovative and transformative, which should be replicated, funded and implemented on a larger scale, by States in cooperation with civil society organizations.
